Safety Pass Certified

The Safety Pass Program was conceived by the Motion Picture and Television Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee as a means of addressing the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's ("OSHA") requirements that employees be trained (and the training documented) in the safe use of equipment and work practices on their job. Because of the freelance nature of many motion picture and television assignments, the Safety Pass Program provides valuable assistance in meeting the training needs of the Industry by providing industry-wide general safety training, thus allowing the Producers to concentrate on site-specific training for the work at hand.

Safety Pass Program training consists of an introductory General Safety Pass Course, which covers such topics as injury and illness prevention, personal protection equipment, lifting safety, and hazard communication. Upon completion, the individual is issued a Safety Passcard in which his/her safety training is recorded. Individuals are encouraged to show their Safety Passcard to current and prospective Industry employers. Additionally, once an individual completes the basic general safety course, he/she is then eligible to take other courses which impart safety information that is generic to all trades and/or courses which offer both lecture and experiential instruction about a specific craft or technique as well as the relevant safety issues. All IATSE and Basic Craft members who are listed (with all information current) on either the Industry Experience Roster or the Television Commercial Roster are eligible to participate in the Safety Pass Program. In the event that an individual works in a job classification which does not have a Roster listing, the individual must meet certain minimum employment experience in the Industry. Enrollment is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
